Former third president of Indonesia, who is also the founder of Ikatan Cendekiawan Muslim Indonesia, ICMI (Association of Indonesia Moslem Intellectuals), BJ Habibie, praises the ideas of Halallan Thayyiban (permitted or lawful according to Islamic sharia) canteen, which is initiated by Brawijaya University.
This is revealed by Siti Asmaul Mustaniroh, canteen manager, while presenting her report in a guest lecture, entitled ‘The Readiness of Implementation of Quality Assurance System of Halal Products in Indonesia Constitution UU RI No. 33, 2014’, on Thursday, 24 March 2016.
On the occasion, halallan thayyiban canteen is officially inaugurated by General Secretary of the Ministry of Religion, Indonesia.
The idea of this canteen, according to Siti, has been initiated since May 2015. “The
idea was then declared officially in Conference of Halal Center, 10 October 2015”
When it was described directly by a team from Brawijaya University, Habibies as a founder of ICMI supported the idea. “We can say that this canteen is a pioneer among canteens from other universities” she added.
In preparing halal canteen, Brawijaya University has done a survey on canteens and compliance to standard of LPPOM MUI Indonesia, also took in observation by LPPOM MUI East Java. (*)
